Obama and Health Care

•July 30, 2009 • Leave a Comment

Despite a brief interlude by Professor Gates and the Massachusetts Cambridge police there has been practically only one topic that has monopolized the headlines for the past few months, that of health care reform. Some famous political conservative pundits/commentators have gone so far to say that President Obama and his administration do not like the Constitution because it lists the things that government cannot do to or for you. That negativity, the commentators say, is what they think they are trying to change by enforcing changes on us, through the government mandated health care reform bill.  That will then allow them to control what the government does to and for us. A couple of articles that I would like you to read and think about this week have been posted below. Please read and analyze them before you continue to read my comments. Then feel free to add your comments to the mix.

First article from CNN Money:

“5 freedoms you’d lose in health care reform”

Second article from the NY Times:

“Why we must ration health care”

Topic One: US Health Care Reform

As is the intent of this blog, we want to chime in on the pressing issues of our days.  Right now the debate is quite vociferous with respect to a need for health care reform in the United States.  Some view health care as a fundamental civil right that millions are being denied and argue that immediate and drastic change must be made in order to insure that these individuals have access to health care.  Others argue that the health care system in the United States is among the best in the world and change should be tempered and done in a more calculated way.

Given this divide, there are several health care bills being debated in Congress right now and we thought it would be timely to discuss the principles being discussed, the programs being proposed and analyze the pros and cons of each element laid out.  Over the next couple of weeks, we will post articles, links and discussions related to these pieces of health care reform.  As we go through each article, we will analyze the information present and evaluate the impacts that may not have been considered.  We welcome all comments and discussion to help in the process of arriving at a viable solution to the issues we are now facing related to health care reform.

I appreciate my cousin, Russell’s, introduction to what we plan on doing with this blog.  Both of us are motivated by the foundation that this country is built upon and we wanted to create a forum where we could research and discuss REAL solutions to many of the debates that are currently occurring throughout our country and the world as a whole.  It is our hope that all who visit this blog can become engaged in a real conversation about these issues so that collectively, we can arrive at solutions.  The perspective that we will present will be based on our conservative background with a progressive acceptance of viable and sustainable solutions to the problems debated.  We have a strong believe that conservative ideals can and will provide solutions to the major problems that we are facing today like economic reform, health care, climate change and affirmative action measures.  Come join us as we make an accounting of our stewardship to those great leaders who created a nation where our voice could be heard.

Hello and Welcome to ToTheFounders.wordpress.com!  During 2008′s Republican primaries and the Presidential Race there was a lot of talk about getting back to Reagan style conservatism.  There were words like principles and ideals batted around.  There were vague ideas about how to solve or improve the economy, national security, the energy crisis, and more.  We, the writers, wanted to present some clear, concrete, conservative solutions to the problems that are facing our great country.  We too, as Margaret Thatcher said about Ronald Reagan, “love[ed] America and what it stands for – freedom and opportunity for ordinary people.”  This is the greatest country on earth but unless we look to practical solutions for the problems that are facing us we will slip into mediocrity and lose our standing of right, freedom, and justice on the world stage.  The longer we wait, the bigger the problems will become, and so we wanted to take voice and “write” the founders of this great nation to whom we owe a stewardship.  They brought this nation from a ‘nothing upstart’ collection of colonies to what it is today.  They sacrificed so much and even risked sacrificing everything for what we have today.  We are confident that they could not foresee the great hegemonic power that the United States of America would eventually become, and if we want to continue that climb we will need to look not only to the great leaders of the past and what they taught us but also propose new, progressive, conservative solutions.  In that vein we will discuss each topic over a three week period.  The first two weeks will be a discussion presenting various sides of the problem or argument and will include several news articles to read and discuss.  The third and final week (on that topic) will consist of the practical, conservative solution to the problem as well as a letter to the founders explaining everything and how we are fulfilling our stewardship they created and passed to us.
